WHATS A WIKI O_O?


A Wiki is a place where you can store information and add information. Most wikis are open meaning people can add or delete to a Wiki. There are may differen't types of Wiki's the best known one is Wikipedia which made Wiki's famous but it isnt the only one. Nowadays anybody can create a wiki for any subject they want.

MY PERSONAL OPINION

I personally like Wiki's for the information they contain, and how you can find if it's reliable by double checking information or if it has where they got the information from. I Find em useful for getting information or for making information known to the public easily, and that they can change information if they think it's wrong.

I never made a wiki and i probably will not make a wiki anytime soon since its time consuming and you need a decent knowledge of the topic your talking about

...WIKIS+LIBRARY=???

I dont see a Library using a wiki because they don't have much to write about except maybe the history of the library or how to use machinery withing the Library/

I would suggest a public forum for the library instead that way users can talk to each other, ask questions have them answered, and they can reply to those answers, wiki's to me just don't seem that useful in a public library, if were talking academic or government library, I still would think a forum would be more appropriate unless you have something more Wiki-related for your academic library/government (personally can't think of one at the moment though)

Upgrade to Wikis?

I personally can't see anything better than a wiki for giving out mass amount of information where users can collaborate on them. For now I think Wiki's are here to stay until something else is created to compete with them. It's the newest technology we have and we should take advantage of it if we can figure out ways on how to do that.

Wikia------ This is personally a gaming wiki where it contains a lot of information about many sort of games and gaming platforms.It has a lot of images and videos one of the more advance wiki's I've seen to be honest. I consider it very useful for an avid gamer, but personally i would just hit up google and look on a official site that i trust for information, and I'm not an avid gamer so i find little use to it personally.
Wetpaint---- The most confusing Wiki i have encountered in my search, nothing made sense, i couldn't get what it was talking about or referring too.


PBwiki---- A business Wiki...enough said, I wouldn't use it since that's not my department, besides that the layout is decent but not my thing.
